The essay reflects on how Hans-Georg Gadamer and Karl Barth view interpretation of the Christian Bible. It proceeds in three main sections. first contends that secularizes theology, this has drawbacks for sort reading his hermeneutic can give to Scripture. second part turns Barth, arguing whole structure approach Bible factors theological commitment, with benefits readings he deliver. final makes a case contemporary reflection nonetheless glean important insights from Gadamer, especially regarding readerly reception texts, because perspective certain richness Barth’s cannot match. overall suggestion emerging interrogation these two thinkers is phenomenology theology might learn one another, they each contribute something valuable discussions biblical interpretation.
